CAN YOU SEE ME NOW?

My second piece began as a self-portrait in my sketchbook where I was trying to convey the mood I felt during online classes. I wanted it to be expressive and show a state of mind more than be an accurate or realistic image of myself. Because of that, I wanted to stylize it more in the coloring stage and use more jarring colors than I usually do to add a sense of startling and unease. In part inspired by portraits done by Sarah Gonzalez, I also tried to use shapes to create the definition in the face as well as to make the portrait more graphic than it would be if I had painted it. Overall, while I don't feel like the final piece captures the same energy as the sketch, I'm happy with how it came out in terms of the hyper-saturated colors and contrast that I'm not used to.
